Workshops at the ATC are informative, participatory,
stimulating and fun. Our interactive workshops involve participants in every
step of the process, encouraging a sense of completion and achievement, as
well as inspiring understanding and motivation.
Plastics recycling workshop - Neat notebooks, beautiful bunting, snazzy sun-catchers or creative cards . (KS2 - KS4) -
1 1/4 hour workshop. Collect, sort and process recyclable plastics,
understand the energy inputs to new and recycled plastic and take back
with you a real example of plastics recycling. Participants are
given the opportunity to design, make and take away their own recycled plastic object.
Footprint workshop (KS 2- 4) - 1 1/4 hour workshop. This workshop uses a range of
fun, accelerated learning techniques to create a dynamic learning space in
which pupils are introduced to the concept of environmental footprints,
what they are, why they matter and how they can be reduced. The footprint workshop
encourages pupils to recognise the consequences of their actions on the
environment and introduces a range of mechanisms for reducing their own
‘footprint.’ The plenary of this workshop provides a good launching off
pad for schools that wish to continue along the sustainability path.
Paper recycling workshop (KS1 - KS4) - 1 1/4 hour workshop.
Learn how to pulp, process, and colour waste paper and turn it into sheets
of beautiful new paper. Understand the processes used to recycle paper, the
energy inputs and take away sheets of paper that can be used for art or
presentation of project work.
Renewable energy workshop (KS2 and lower KS3) - 1 1/4 hour
workshop. Casting an eye on daily energy use, looking at fossil
fuels vs renewable energy and practical application of renewable energy
models, this stimulating workshop takes a look at solar PV, wind, water
and biomass. It involves the pupils in practical activities, creating circuits they power by solar and wind energy.
Food Miles (KS2 - KS4) - 1 1/4 hour workshop. Design
a high food miles meal, design a low miles one. Depending on your
key stage, play the food miles quiz - or Bingo! A fun and lively
